Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program

In the CPE residency program, you'll be a part of an engaging, dynamic and effective training program with an ACPE Certified Educator. We use the action-reflection model of learning and experience-based learning methods to encourage you to become a reflective spiritual care practitioner in the medical field so you can serve patients, family members, and others at the hospital.

Level I: This is a course where you'll learn the basic skills of spiritual care. It helps students develop their identity as a professional spiritual care provider and learn some basic skills like active listening, grief support, assessment of group dynamic, self-awareness, crisis intervention, spiritual assessment, and cultural, religious and spiritual diversity.

Level II: In this more advanced course the goal is to integrate what students learned from Level I into their spiritual care ministry at the hospital.

Certified Educator CPE Level: This level is for those who’ve finished Level I and Level II and are interested in becoming an ACPE certified educator.

The residency program begins in September each year.
  • 6 full-time temporary positions with on-call available
  • Four (4) CPE units
  • Hourly pay of $20.41/hr ($42,452/annually) + call pay
  • First day medical, dental, vision and flexible spending accounts available
  • Quarterly tuition of $600 per unit of CPE ($2,400 annually)
