Quality alert: Community receives numerous awards for excellence

As Community Medical Centers’ Chief Medical & Quality Officer, I’m exceedingly proud of our clinicians’ and physicians’ work this past year. Each of our three hospitals recently earned full re-accreditation from The Joint Commission with accolades from the Commission’s surveyors.  Atop that, Community was awarded numerous recognitions for excellence over the past year.

Community Regional Medical Center
  • Received 5-star (out of 5) ratings for hip fractures and knee replacement from Healthgrades®.
  • Received a 3-star (out of 3) composite quality rating for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
  • Was recognized by Blue Cross/Blue Shield with a center of excellence award for knee and hip replacement.
  • Received primary stroke certification from The Joint Commission. 
  • Received certification for cancer services from the American College of Surgeons.
  • Received College of American Pathologists certification for our clinical laboratory.
  • Received American Association of Blood Banks accreditation for our laboratory transfusion services.
  • And successfully implemented GetWell Network,our inpatient room TV entertainment and education portal where patients can view video education courses and discharge instructions, earning Community Regional two national awards for overall achievement and leadership engagement.


Clovis Community Medical Center
  • Exceeded perfect patient care/core measure targets with a score of 98.6% vs. 95.3% in fiscal year 2013.
  • Participated in the 2013 Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture achieving an 83% respond rate with an overall safety rating of "very good" to "excellent.”
  • Received California Children’s Services designation for its neonatal intensive care unit to provide continued care for eligible children, decreasing outbound transfers and mother-baby separation.
  • Was granted breast MRI accreditation by the America College of Radiology.
  • And was voted “Best Hospital” by the Fresno Bee’s Central Valley’s 2014 People’s Choice Awards.


Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital
  • Received numerous awards from Healthgrades® including Outstanding Patient Experience Award for a seventh  consecutive year and was ranked among the nation’s top 5% for consistently delivering care that patients rate as exceptional.
    • Received 5 stars (out of 5) for carotid surgery – for the fifth year in a row.
    • Received 5 stars (out of 5) for bariatric surgery – for the sixth year in a row.
  • Received Healthgrades® coronary intervention excellence award and was named among America’s 100 best hospitals for coronary intervention, ranking among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation, and among the top 5 hospitals in California for coronary interventional procedures.
  • Received 3 stars (out of 3) for coronary artery bypass graft and valve surgery from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
  • Fresno Heart & Surgical was selected as “Top Performer” for key quality measures by The Joint Commission. 
  • And the ICU staff at FHSH also received the Beacon Award for outstanding achievements by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
