Meet our Board of Trustees

Community Health System's Board of Trustees is a group made up of community volunteers who have expertise in a variety of industries and professions. Trustees serve three-year terms and may be reappointed for up to four consecutive terms.

The Board is responsible for molding the organization's regional healthcare mission and strategy, overseeing quality-care and financial standards, and making decisions regarding future investments. Each of the volunteer trustees acts as a steward to ensure that resources are used in the community's interest.
 
Board members are routinely oriented on the Articles of Incorporation, the Bylaws, and the trustees' fiduciary duties under state and federal law. For a private, nonprofit healthcare organization, those duties include due care and inquiry, confidentiality, obedience and loyalty. Should conflicts of interest arise, the Board maintains a well-defined policy, guided by California law and IRS rules, that requires disclosure and sometimes a member's exclusion from deliberation and voting. Board governance is among the national accreditation standards scrutinized periodically by The Joint Commission.
 
The Board is self-governing. It recruits new members as positions come open, always seeking to maintain a robust mix of professions and backgrounds. Over the years, a composition of physicians, farmers, finance experts, education leaders, lawyers, public administrators, business leaders and others has ensured that major decisions are thoroughly reviewed.
