Pediatric Intensive Care Changes 

Community Regional Medical Center’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is closed as of December 18, 2023. However, this does not affect the services or level of care provided to our pediatric patients.

Community Regional continues to treat pediatric intensive care patients in other areas of the hospital, including:

• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Intensive Care Unit
• Pediatric Inpatient Care Unit
• Pediatric Burn Unit
• Outpatient Pediatric Specialty Care Clinics

About Pediatric Intensive Care

Community Regional treats children facing life-threatening illnesses or trauma. Our pediatric intensivists and critical care nurses are specially trained to manage children with many critical conditions. Your care team may include other clinicians like respiratory therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, or others depending on your child's care needs.

We participate in the California Children’s Services (CCS) Program. It’s a state program for children with certain CCS-eligible chronic diseases or health problems. CCS provides resources for children under 21 years to have access to necessary diagnostic and treatment services, medical case management, nutrition management and physical and occupational therapy services. 

Child Life Specialists

Child Life Specialists are dedicated to the emotional and developmental needs of children and families receiving care at Community Regional Medical Center. They empower children with knowledge and coping strategies so they can face their hospital stay with understanding and confidence. Additionally, Child Life Specialists promote health, growth and development by providing opportunities for play.

Terry’s House — A Home Away From Home

For families outside of the immediate area, Terry’s House — available to families for free or for a low daily rate — provides a close and convenient home-away-from-home that keeps families close to their critically sick or injured loved ones.
