As we get older, visible signs of aging in the face and neck become more apparent. These can include sagging due to the skin relaxing, deepening of the fold lines between the nose and corners of the mouth, development of jowls in the cheeks and jaw, and loose skin and excess fat on the neck.

Losing the youthful shape of the face can be from many factors, including thinning skin, loss of facial fat, sun damage, smoking, genetics and stress. If you're bothered by these signs, a facelift may be right for you.

What’s a facelift?

A facelift, also called rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes, tightens and lifts the skin and other tissue of the face to create a more youthful appearance. A portion of the neck is also improved during this procedure. It's important to note, however, that a facelift does not stop the aging process.

During a facelift, the skin and underlying tissue on each side of the face is redirected and surgically altered to return the contour, or shape, of the face to a more youthful look. The incision is artfully hidden along natural skin folds.
