Over the years -- as an officer, as Police Chief, and now as Mayor – I’ve always been amazed by the level of care the doctors, nurses, and staff at Community provide.

During my law enforcement career, I had countless officers who were seriously injured on the job due to accidents, shootings, and other life-threatening incidents. And time and again, having the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Central California right here in downtown Fresno allowed our officers to be treated immediately and, in many cases, it saved their lives.

Community Health System provides the best possible care to all people, regardless of age, race, or whether or not they can even afford the medical care they receive. And when you live in a place where 24% of the population lives at or below the poverty line, this kind of commitment to the people of our city is invaluable.

We are very fortunate to have the team at Community Regional Medical Center downtown. I can’t imagine what it would be like if we didn’t have Community Health System serving our city.
