Frequently Asked Questions

COVID-19 precautions are currently in effect. Read our coronavirus (COVID-19) page for the most up-to-date visitor restrictions. For virtual new parent education courses and hospital tours, visit parent education.

Unfortunately, at this time we are not offering in-person tours at Clovis Community or Community Regional hospitals. Please check out the childbirth class "Introduction: Take a Tour of Our Birthing Centers" for virtual tours.

It’s important to not bring too many things. You will probably be in our care for a day or two, so there will be plenty of time for your support network to bring additional items to make you more comfortable during your stay and things you’ll need when you leave the hospital.
A few things you might want to consider bringing include:
  • Non-slip slippers
  • Non-refrigerated food for a support person
  • Music that is soothing to you
  • A pair of socks
  • Focal point to use during contractions
  • Hand-held massager
  • Phone charger
  • Toiletries for mom and support person
  • Bathrobe
  • Change of clothes for support person

Yes, we encourage all parents-to-be to preregister. This will be one less thing you need to do when you check-in on the big day. You can preregister online with your MyChart account. Click here to sign in.

Community Regional

Labor & Deliver at Community Regional has its own registration desk for obstetrics patients. Preregister on the third floor at the Birthing Center and not at the general registration desk on the first floor. Registration is available 24/7.

Whether it’s scheduled or recommended during labor, take comfort in knowing that our hospitals have dedicated surgical suites with state-of-the-art operating rooms, imaging and diagnostic equipment and expert providers.

We encourage you to keep your baby in the room with you and be held "skin-to-skin." This time spent together helps with bonding, breastfeeding, as well as helps you to be more comfortable in caring for your baby's needs.

You’ll more quickly learn your baby's cues and get to understand what he or she wants. Many new moms also sleep better when their baby is in the room. Your baby will be with you continuously during the day and at night unless your baby needs to be in the newborn nursery for medical reasons.

It is quite common and natural for moms and babies to struggle with breastfeeding at first. This is no reason for concern. Both Clovis Community and Community Regional offer in-patient lactation consultants who visit every patient following their birth experience to provide private, bedside breastfeeding education and assistance.
And regardless of where your baby was born, the Mother’s Resource Center at Community Regional provides board-certified lactation consultants, classes, equipment and more on an outpatient basis

This is your special moment and we are here to make it everything you ever imagined it would be. We fully encourage patients to speak with their doctor about how they would like to deliver. The hospital supports patient requests, but it is ultimately up to the plan that you develop together with your physician. As such, we encourage you to discuss what you want with your physician.

Yes. We carefully monitor all individuals who enter and exit our labor and delivery suites, postpartum unit, nursery care unit, intermediate, and neonatal intensive care units.

Immediately after delivery, matching identification bands are attached to your newborn, you and the father/spouse. Footprints are made and photographs of your infant are taken for identification purposes. An electronic security tag is also applied to your baby that alarms if your baby is moved from designated safe zones automatically alerting the security team.

Additionally, all staff are specially trained in monitoring processes to ensure we know the exact location of your baby in the unit at all times.

Like hospitals nationwide, we have a security plan in place, educate staff, and monitor effectiveness through frequent drills to ensure the security of newborns and children in the hospital.

On-site interpreters as well as our state-of-the-art Video Interpreter Service provide a live, two-way video chat, offering translation services between mom and provider. Translation services for more than 40 languages are available, 24/7.
